Our Instructors

Mickie Vasquez has performed coast to coast with husband Junior Vasquez and began teaching voice and ensemble at South Plains College in 1998, where she currently holds a tenured position as Program Coordinator. She leads worship with husband Junior and vocal associate Lesa Wood, and she enjoys long walks on the beach, even though there is nothing resembling a beach in the Lubbock area. Mickie has studied voice with Dave Stroud, Greg Enriquez, Jeff Skouson, Michael Goodrich, and Seth Riggs. She will be a Level 3 instructor in 2006. She has 3 children and lives in Shallowater, Texas, just outside of Lubbock (a beach-free zone).

Lesa Wood has been a performer for more than 35 years, earned a degree in Education, and has been teaching voice and ensemble at South Plains College since 2000. She has studied with Dave Stroud, Jeff Skouson, Michael Goodrich, and Seth Riggs and will attain level 2 teaching status in 2006. Lesa has a great deal of experience in the praise and worship field and serves on a worship team with vocal associate Mickie Vasquez. Lesa is an Aquarius, which makes her rather complex, contemplative, and quite thorough. She’s a member of the Lubbock Civic Chorale and has a husband David and 2 children.

Jay Lemon has been a rock star all his life, even though no one has ever heard of him. Having played in numerous bands as a keyboardist and singer, Jay finally got a real job at South Plains College in 1991, where he currently holds a tenured position as a voice and ensemble instructor. Jay has studied with Dave Stroud, Greg Enriquez, Jeff Skouson, Michael Goodrich, and Seth Riggs and will be a Level 2 instructor in 2006. He enjoys piña coladas, getting caught in the rain, and writing and recording songs and jingles. Jay plays piano for Trinity Church in Lubbock and is married to the very beautiful Kristen, with whom he has 3 children.
